Getting There

Toledo Station

Taking the train is the simplest and most expeditious way to this beautiful city. With a mere 30-minute train ride, you’ll be able to make the most of your time to explore and discover all the wonders that this city has to offer. As soon as you step of the train, admire the magnificent fortress situated on your right, which is sure to make your heart skip a beat.

The best way to continue your journey is to follow the road that runs along the river. Once you reach the bridge, you’ll be greeted by awe-inspiring views that are sure to take your breath away. I highly recommend visiting the city during the winter season, as the air is crisp and refreshing. Additionally, during this time, there are fewer tourists, and the Christmas Market lights up the square.

The Cathedral

Toledo Cathedral
Inside the Cathedral

When arriving at the Cathedral, visitors have the option of entering through the main or back door. While both entrances lead to the same breathtaking interior, some visitors may prefer to enter through the back door. This entrance may be more convenient for those coming from a certain direction.

Personally, I opted to enter through the back door as it was the first entrance I came across. Once inside, I was immediately struck by the stunning architecture and intricate details of the Cathedral. Of particular note is the famous altarpiece, “El Transparente”, which can be seen in the heart of the Cathedral. This awe-inspiring piece of art is not to be missed and is sure to leave a lasting impression on anyone who visits the Cathedral. Whether you enter through the main or back door, a visit to this Cathedral is a must for everyone.

Swords

Toledo Sword Shop

If you’re a sword enthusiast and happen to be in Toledo, Spain, you might wonder if it’s possible to bring one of their exquisite swords back to the United States. After all, Toledo is famous for their steel. I did extensive research online and after reading contradictory posts, I was unsure if I should take the chance. Some posts said the swords have been taken by Spain Customs and USA Customs. Luckily, during a visit to a shop in Toledo, a friendly lady assured me that bringing a sword back to the US is possible, as long as I put it in my checked luggage.

Feeling both nervous and excited, I decided to take a chance and purchase a beautiful dagger, which set me back around 120 USD. Before leaving Toledo, you’ll pass through a security checkpoint in the train station where you’ll need to declare the sword and show your passport and receipt. It’s important to keep in mind that tourists must leave Toledo within 48 hours of purchasing a sword to avoid any issues at the checkpoint.

So yes, you can bring a sword back from Toledo.
